Borderline Personality Disorder

This can be one of the most difficult personality disorders for individuals, their family, friends and therapist. Some therapists are reluctant to see individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, because treating them can be challenging and time consuming. It has been said that the motto of individuals who fall into this group is: "I hate you, don't leave me." One cannot generalize when referring to individuals, since everyone will be unique. The degree and presence of symptomology will vary from person to person. This disorder is diagnosed more often in women (75%) than men. It is possible that the disorder is simply not recognized as easily in men.

I have treated women with Borderline Personality Disorder, and the work is frequently demanding. I would suggest that a mental health professional who treats Borderline Personality Disorder carry a lighter caseload to allow enough time for each client, especially at the beginning of treatment.

This disorder will appear in about 2% of the general population. Fortunately, this is one of the personality disorders that usually improves as a person ages. Mark each question with a YES or NO and then hit submit to see your results.
